Equipment Used And Researched

For our filming equipment, we used a Sony DVD Hand-Cam. This was good to use because they are simple to use and were easy to transport about for going off college site to film.
I was behind the camera at all times, so i was experienced with the technology used, however it also extended my skills for the future.
When i recorded clips, i played it back to my group to double check the angles and filming was correct. This was a good way of having group input throughout the project.
The camera was practical to use in the running scene, this needed a hand-held camera in order to complete the scene and make it believable. It also shows the view from the actors point of view.
We used the same tape as in the camera before because this saved money and time.

Actors and costumes

In our project, our main actors are Tim and Dulcie.
Tim played the important role of the Killer. We chose him to play this role as he has a tall and well built posture so show the strength and power of the killer. However to have more tension, the killer has no speech or any visual facial views. The killers clothes are all dark and this shows how he is a dark character. He acted this very well.
Dulcie played the role of the Victim. we chose her to play this role because of her features, and it was similarities to our Pretend girl 'Natalie Grey' . The girls clothes are lighter and fashionable, teenage clothes.
Lainey played a small part in the project in answering questions that Dulcie ( victim ) asked.
Dulice and Laniey are also a part of a young group of kids who go camping. This shows the storyline.
Dulice and Lainey were wearing that days clothes because it was just acting as normal teenagers going camping, casual attire.

Props

We decided to use a minimum range of different props in out title sequence, to create realism and tension.
The props we used are :
Bags
Permanent marker
Missing person board
Name tag

The most important prop is the Natalie Grey name tag. This played a main role in our sequence. This bag signifies something has happened to Natalie Grey and her bag has mysteriously appeared with the other bags in the wood by the camp. There is a really obvious shot of this bag, and of the tag, to clearly show the importance of the bag and name.

The other prop is the board the killer has of newspaper clippings. The board is full of newspaper clippings of missing persons and have images. The missing persons are all quite young, so the viewer can make the link between the young persons from the board, and the developing photo.
Natalie Grey will be shown on the missing persons board. There should be a close up shot of this so the audience can mark the importance of Natalie Grey and the killer, and the bag and the fact she is missing.
we edited the newspaper by tea bag staining the paper to make it look older and more mysterious.

Permanent markers were used to symbolise certain images, and make the stand out from the rest, such as the Natalie grey image.
The use of our prop was an effective part used towards our media production.

Analysis of the 'Blair Witch Project'

As using the films shrooms to get an idea for our title sequence we also used the trailer to 'The Blair Witch Project'. The opening title sequence of this isn't really relevant to our project, however some scenes are.
Take a look.

From 1:08-1:24.

These are the running scenes. We have based our title sequence on this because of the tension. We liked the shaky cam effect and the fact you couldn't see their face; that just their back as they ran away from whatever was chasing them.
It creates a bit of tension for the audience because it appears as if they are closer to the person/thing than the actors on screen.
We liked the idea of teenagers camping in the woods and that something scares them.

The lighting is also quite good in these shots because they are at dusk and night fall, which is more dramatic because the audience can't see as much as broad daylight.
The atmosphere of this trailer is disconcerting, ominous and Quite mysterious. The scene where Heather is talking into the camera, making her apology to her parents etc, from 1:26-1:34, is good as it adds to the ominous feel of the film.
She is saying goodbye basically, so there is clearly obviously something wrong and she is scared she will die. This is implicit in the footage but does make the audience feel uncomfortable and slightly scared for her, a feel which i think would be good to add into our title sequence.
It could of turned out to be really cheesy, but I don't think the Blair Witch Project is, nor our title sequence.

Final works

Today is our second to last lesson before our deadline. we moved our project significantly forward. Our group did not work particularly well today as a whole, but in couples it was fine.
We concentrated on our music and Tim can edit music well because he does a radio show and has had the experience of editing music before, so if this music needs editing, we may be at a slight advantage.
whilst Lainey and Dulcie decided for names and choose the final text, me and Tim carried on editing the footage.

After the Media lesson, Me Dulcie and Lainey stayed for an hour and carried on with the editing. This was a great advantage to us as we learnt how to use the programme more.

Us 3 managed to satisfactorily get a lot more shots put on to the timeline and started putting rough credits on in a position. We want to put the credits and music on before we start playing around with effects because then we can see how long the sequence is and what the whole thing will look like with credits and audio on.
Also we need to meet the time allowance which is a minimum of 1:30 and a maximum of 2:00.

We are all using all our free time to make our footage slightly an improvement.
Having done this project, it has given us a good experience. It has been quite fun to plan and do, and act in and even watching the footage back was quite hilarious. But it has been equally stressful and frustrating.

Shrooms Anaylsis

This opening sequence from the film called 'Shrooms' is very similar to how we wanted our opening sequence to look like.
We have used similar panting noises, similar setting and footage.
This film really inspired us to create our storyboard.

The film cutting and editing is sharp and quick, however it has longer phrases to create the tension of some clips.

Take a look,

8th Febuary, Music

Today we carried on editing and We have built upon the footage we have already got. We have had guidance from both teachers on how to improve it and what the pace is like, if we are using the right shots in the right order, and so far, I think everything should be good. There were a few differences between our group however we worked through that and managed to find some music to use in the title sequence.

This music is called 'ghostpocalypse'.

Today we introduced some effects to the footage, we have decided on some that we like and where we could use them. We are aware we do not want to do it over the top on the effects because that would undermine the atmosphere of the footage and make it incredibly predictable. However there are certain effects that do look good, and work, also make the footage more realistic. For example on the scene where Dulcie is running as this shot is already shaky cam, however we added a slow motion effect and slowed the pace down to create tension.

Editing

A week today, on Friday we got some more editing done. Tim was a little late to the lesson, but we managed to log and capture the shots form Wednesday's filming and start the final editing.

We all cooporated well and we all got involved with the editing, with including our own opioins and views. There may have been some creative differences but we worked through them and have hopefully used all of our ideas in the project and this will be shown with our Final Outcome.

We wrote all the shots down in order of what we wanted so that if anything went wrong, we had the shots already to put back again.

Final plans of editing

In Wednesday lesson we all had a situation where we decided we needed more indoor shots to contrast with the outdoor running, and so we had to grab a camera and finish filming in the college. It was our only option to be completed by Friday the 12Th deadline. Our filming occurred in 4 stages; one second half of a media lesson, where we got some footage of the 'missing persons board'.Another we went off site and managed to shoot the main scenes of the project like the running and the train and Tim in the forest etc. Another time we filmed at the back of the college field, these are the shots with the bags and the Natalie Grey tag, where Dulcie and Lainey are talking.
On the Wednesday we filmed some more indoor shots of Tim in the dark room, developing some pictures, and of Tim's grubby hands. We also shot some footage of Tim drawing on the missing persons board.

All of these little indoor shots will hopefully just break the sequence up and disorientate the viewers slightly, which is the feel of the footage we are going for.
We do still have the final editing, effects and credits to place in and only have a week and half left. We are certainly feeling the pressures of the project and there has been some slight tension in the group, but this hasn't effected us. We are going to hopefully come and do some editing in our Free's so we can move forward with the project.

Film credits

To find which order the film credits needed to appear in the screen, Dulcie and i went on YouTube and typed in "catch me if you can". This is a good and clear example that shows you what film credits and order to have them in.
It is shown below.

Common opening credits order

While there are numerous variations most opening credits use some variation of the basic order noted within:

(NAME OF THE STUDIO)

- name of the studio that is distributing the film and may or may not have produced it (Buena Vista, Columbia, Lions Gate, Universal, etc.)

(NAME OF THE PRODUCTION COMPANY)

- name of the production company that actually made the film

- name of the investment groups or companies that financed a substantial part of the film (usually credited as "in association with")

(PRODUCER NAME) PRODUCTION or/and (director only) A FILM BY (DIRECTOR or PRODUCER NAME)

- director's or producer's first credit, often "a film by XY or "a XY film"

STARRING

- principal actors, ( Sometimes the stars' and director's credits will be reversed, depending on the star's deal with the studio)

(FILM'S TITLE)

- name of the film

Captureing and editing

On Friday the 29th we captured all our shots on the computer. After this we started to do a rough edit. we are halfway through editing.
Lucky all 4 of us have been present the last week or 2. This has made it very simple to film and have all our group ideas involved.

Today is Monday the 1st and we are editing. We don't need to film any more. This gives us the chance to spend more time editing.
Tim is absent to day, as he is very ill. However Lainey and rich both received a messaged and phone call from him this morning.

Filming 2

On Monday the 25th of January, we went of collage site and filmed some footage for our main task. We now think we have all the correct footage we need to log it and have a rough edit of it. From then we will know if we need anymore footage or re-capture.

Filming dates

During the Christmas break we had scheduled too film however due to one of our members decided to spend the day at work so we were unable to completed our target. We planned to film the first week back however due to the weather conditions college was shut for the week, this included us missing two two hour lessons in in media, including our re-scheduled film dates. Due to people being absent Lainey and I thought it was unfair to go ahead and film with only two members of the group, Tim also agreed on this so we had to make more arranged to film on Friday 22Nd.
However in our recent media lessons we have created a missing persons board by using previous articles ripping and tea staining them.
we have also looked into our screen shorts plans in depth to make sure were not missing anything of the day we film.

Main Task Idea

For our main task idea, we have decided to go with the camping in the woods idea, with a murderer/stalker. There will be a group of teenagers that are all friends having a party.
suspicious things start to happen which only makes one person from the group freak ! everyone else ignores the commotion. We plan to use shots of thw following; suitcase being packed for camping; the wind blowing in the trees; a newspaper acticle saying a missing girl called Natalie Grey, who is our my character; a suitcase being packed, full of knives; the newspaper articles of other missing people; a girl running frantically through the woods, breathing and panting really heavy, this shows that hes scared and running away from something which no-one knows about.

this should be edited really quick and disjointed, to confuse the viewer, and to create the theme of uncetaintcy. this will keep the viewer slightly in surspence.
